salon/hairdresser recommendation, SF bay area

My hair has gotten really damaged recently, and I'm trying to decide what to do with it. Torn between cutting it chin length and starting over again (it grows fast -- chin length to bottom of butt length in 4 years), or trying to salvage it.

I'm looking for a hair dresser who I can not only trust to not automatically recommend that I chop off n feet/trim 3 inches when I asked her to trim 1, but also for one that understands truly long hair well enough to help me figure out how repairable it is so that I can make an informed decision about whether to keep it long or not.

SF proper is preferred, but further away is do-able. Hell, I'm willing to travel VERY far if it is somewhere I'm interested in visiting anyway.

The stylist I used in San Jose for bleaching my hair also has experience with long hair (her own is rather lengthy); if that isn't too far for you, I'll be happy to give you her info.
