Wow. That is by far the most arrogant piece of mail I've ever gotten on a dating website. This one on OK Cupid. The gentleman in question is very good looking, but is only a 60% match for me (which is abysmal imo). He is also in England, which is awfully far away, and has bad spelling and grammar.

He writes:
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

hi my names peter im 23 and from the uk!

you have won the star prize in a competition to talk to me!

you have won unlimited talk time with me and the push of a button!

to claim your prise just reply to this message!

and again congratulations!

lol

;)

Loser alert! Should I send him back a bitchy sarcastic message riffing off his message?

No, because then he'll have a reason to write back to you and email address to use...

I don't think OKCupid reveals emails addresses within their messaging system.

Depends on how arrogant you think he really is; that sounds like it could be true arrogance or the kind that masks insecurity.

I don't find it arrogant. I find it sort of... sad. I wouldn't even respond, myself. But then, I tend not to respond to a fair amount of the okcupid mail anyways.

doesn't sound like arrogance at all to me, just a not particularly successful attempt at humor and standing out from the crowd.

Interesting psychological query: If he weren't very good looking, would you have interpreted it at all differently?

I think he's just being stupid. He's just following the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.

"Should I send him back a bitchy sarcastic message riffing off his message?"

Only if you post it...

Sometimes it's a good thing to meet people who are completely unlike yourself. OKCupid lets you do it easily, and to limit it to the extent that you are comfortable.

IMO, if you can reply without being mean, without deliberately shattering what you perceive as his assumptions, and with the goal of getting a brief glimpse of another world-view, it might be a positive experience.

While I'm being randomly opinionated: If you are going to be petty, make sure you know what you expect to get out of it going in. I understand that a lot of people find that negativity and the internet are very fulfilling and help them find meaning in their life. It's not for everyone. Be a savvy consumer of bitchyness!
