Had to share... This website has statistics on everything divided by country. It is very interesting. The statistic that surprised me is that the average tax per american was higher than the average tax per canadian!

I'd be interested to know where they get their information from... if this is a reliable source of statistics then it is damn useful.

And now I must step away from the statistical crack. mmm. crack.

You mean this chart? That appears to be a simple division of total government revenue over number of people (which is why Vatican City is so monstrous), so corporate tax and the like are included. Since the US has (as far as I know) a bigger per-capita economy than Canada, it doesn't surprise me that it would have more government revenue per person even if it has a lower average individual tax rate.

Average tax rate seems a terrible measure... median seems far more interesting.

I'd imagine no small number of the stats come from the CIA World Fact Book - other stats (e.g. the LJ users) it looks like get built up through good old data mining : )
