Supposedly, I should add, a real children's show from the 70s.

I've been told that the deal with that clips is that the Beeb used to have a contest every year where the shows they were running would submit a few outtakes, and there'd be a prize for the funniest. The folks who made Rainbow (which was indeed a real children's show) decided to up the ante a bit, by filming a skit just for the contest.

BTW, it would have been ITV, not the BBC-- Rainbow was a Thames production.

I like the Thames folks. They're responsible for DangerMouse and Count Duckula, two of the best children's cartoons ever. :-)
