Every few days Mail on my new computer is doing something weird. One other user on the apple discussions board has encountered this problem, but so far no one has responded with the solution to the problem.

Basically, every few days it will re-download all or most of the emails on freaknation's server, and I haven't the foggiest idea why. Anyone have any ideas?

When this happens to me, it is usually after my ISP has had the system down for maintenance. My theory is that something resets or obliterates the POP message count, so when the client contacts the server, it responds by downloading *everything*...

If you don't mind having your mail only local (so you won't be able to get get it remotely from some other computer) you could always set your POP client to delete after downloading...

True, and probably a good idea for a single computer/end-user. In my case, I read email consistently from at least three different machines (work, home, laptop) so I only delete the POP server's files periodically...

That does make things harder.

I check from all over the place, but I telnet or SSH into the remote server and read it there, so there's never any POP involved. *g*
