ugh. What horrible timing.

Well, assuming the phone IS fried...

I have two months before I get a discount towards a new phone (on April 5th)

No word on Verizon carrying the treo 600, only rumors.

Because of technical difficulties, verizon doesn't currently carry the kyocera 7135 although they plan to carry it again in the future; they don't know WHEN in the future, however.

Because they are not carried new by Verizon currently, prices for 7135s on ebay are really jacked up.

[livejournal.com profile] unseelie has a spare, basic verizon phone. But his palm phone is somewhat issueful and we were talking about needing to replace it anyway.

So the short and long of it is that we may both need to replace our cellphones at the same time. Ick.

At least we have the one functioning verizon phone. I'm thinking what I PROBABLY want to do is get a basic verizon phone for as cheap as possible and use that until either the kyocera 7135 is available cheap on eBay, or April 5th comes around and I can get a new treo 600 if those rumors are correct or a new kyocera 7135 if they are carrying it by then. It's only two months of crappy non-smartphone...

I have a question, and I don't mean it to be the *least* bit insulting. But why is the tech level of your moble phone so important to you.

Well, a few things.

First, you seem to think this is important to me. As if the posts I put on here about tech toys are causing me serious angst. They're not. They amuse me. I enjoy obssessing over tech toys. *shrug* getting the cheapest used verizon phone around, I would probably have to pay about $40. If I'm careful, I could get another of the same model I have for $75, certainly for less than $100. Considering that is the price for a palm AND cellphone in one, how can I refuse? I feel that having my palm and cellphone incorporated is worth an extra $35-60.

Second, I ask you this: Why does any geek care about the features on hir car, the MP on hir camera, the nifty features of hir computer, etc? When you can answer that, you will understand why I get all hot and bothered at the thought of owning a treo 600.

Third, cost aside, having a palm and cellphone in one is really convenient. The Treo 600 incorporates the two while remaining a reasonable size. It is also designed in a very intuitive fashion. It is simply, for my needs, the best phone on the market. So of course I want it! Will I get it? That depends on whether Verizon ever carries it and how much it costs with my discount when that eventuality does occur.

That makes sense. :)

Just curious.

I don't know if phones need to be somehow designed for the carrier or something, but I've got an old nokia 5165 I'd be happy to lend you for a few months if it'll work for you - I had Cell 1 service on it, though, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Just a note... a lot of people buy the (cheaply offered) celphone-replacement coverage and then forget they have it when something happens... especially if that something isn't theft. You might want to double check with Verizon and see if you had that coverage.
