Anyone know of anything interesting going on this weekend? I don't know of anything/my schedule seems empty. Most weekends there's a party or club on Friday or Saturday, but this time I don't seem to have anything pencilled in... oh, except I think there's a Funkenstein party Saturday night. Is that right? I believe I've been told I'm still welcome there, and things seem a little smoother nowadays, so maybe I'll go. Long time since I've been there...

Also, I know there are some theaters doing all day marathons of the three Lord of the Rings movies when the third is released. Does anyone know of a theater in the Bay Area that is doing this? Is anyone interested or planning on doing this at any particular theater or just in general?

The Metreon, at least, will be showing the all-three deal, and I thnk there was also a South Bay location. I will not be going because I don't think I could sit through that much movie without either getting thrombosis or a bladder infection. I will watch them in the comfort of my own home, with pee breaks, thanks.

According to New Line Cinema, the Metreon one is the only one in the Bay Area, and is already sold out. Also, it doesn't list a schedule, and like you say, back to back sounds like a horrific experience.

When the first one came out, a bunch of MIT folk (94 to be precise) rented a theater together. It was an adult theater so we paid $17 each for our tickets but had unlimited popcorn and beverages including beer. It was wonderful and very civilized. I'd love to do it in a theater like that, with a one hour break for people to retire to the lounge in between. Possibly with a catered dinner (or whatever meal it overlaps). I think that would be a great way to spend a day if it were done in a civilized way. I'm wondering if there's a way to arrange that with a local theater, one of the small ones.

Unfortunately, the Metreon's marathon day sold out within about three hours of tix going on sale. I was not pleased. F***in' scalpers. :-(

Oh, and IIRC the schedule wasn't "back to back" -- there was at least half an hour between shows; I think longer between the second and third, to allow people to get dinner.

Century 20 Oakridge was/is the South Bay venue, and is also sold out. The first movie starts at 1pm; seeing as the start time for the last (as I understand it) is midnight, there appears to be considerable amounts of time built into the schedule.

As of Fri 10 Oct, there were still tickets available for the theatre in Fresno that was holding a showing. But that's about 6hours (round trip) of driving to go sit on your butt in Fresno for 11hours.

I'll be having a more relaxed viewing in the comfort of my livingroom at my next convenience.

http://lordoftherings.net/trilogy/theaters.html is the full list.

There is one in Sacramento, but I haven't called for ticket information yet. It is < 2hrs in good traffic from the east bay (1:20 from my house to the Observatory, and 15min for me to said theater for gauge of time). I can't find a phone number to call about the tickets.

I would pretty much count on every place being sold out by now.

Hmmm. I wonder if the Parkway would go for that.
