So [livejournal.com profile] nytemuse was nice enough to pick us up from the airport, waiting while the plane was delayed at the gate.

We left the airport at 11:30 or so. Most of the way to the Bay Bridge, we saw a sign saying that the bridge was backed up and we should use alternate routes if possible. Of course, at that point using the San Mateo or another would have taken an extra hour at least.

So we head to the Bay Bridge and get into the the traffic jam, and a few hundred yards from the toll booths, the car looses power. We pull over to the left shoulder and we don't even have flashers. Apparently, the alternator is dead.

Luckily [livejournal.com profile] nytemuse renewed her AAA that very day. So we call AAA, and 20 minutes later a tow truck picks us up. We squeeze into the three seater cab and it takes us an HOUR to get from there to Treasure Island. At which point the driver unilaterally decides to turn around, drive us to Emeryville, and drop us and the car at a Denny's because it was the end of his shift.

So we order food from the world's slowest waitress, exhausted (up since 8 a.m. PST). Eventually a tow truck shows up and tows us across the bridge...

We got to sleep at 4:30 a.m.

I'm proud of [livejournal.com profile] unseelie. He got up and went to class at 8 a.m. ANYWAY. [livejournal.com profile] nytemuse's car is fixed and she'll be leaving soon.

I should go to work and work a half day, but as it is I'm still underslept and don't want to. Bad me. Not sure what I'm going to do.

On the positive side, there was an e-mail waiting for me when I got home from the textbook company guy; he has another, smaller project for me. w00t!

You do really need to work on that getting-to-sleep-at-a-reasonable-hour thing.

If you were trying to cross the bridge last night, I can probably explain the delay. I tried crossing it ~7:30, and it was bumper to bumper from the tolls. Fortunately, I was on my motorcycle but the crossing still took around 30 minutes.

From what I could see, about 1/4 mile from the first exit for Fremont street, there was a serious crash. It looked like there was a double length car trailer (ie the ones for car dealerships), and the second trailer broke off and spun into traffic, eventually slamming into the left side of the bridge. There were a couple of cars hit, and a couple of cars came off the trailer. The rest of the truck was stopped a couple hundred feet along, but I couldn't tell if it had been in an accident as well. So they closed down the left three lanes.

To compound the problem, there was a baseball game as well to make the traffic worse.

Gods, J and I were stuck in that traffic jam, too. That sucks.
