to health?

Yesterday and today I've had trouble with my head...

I'll feel fine, and then I'll stand up, and for the next N minutes I'll have a throbbing headache until my head adjusts to standing. I thought it might be low blood pressure... so I had some salty chips yesterday. I think it might have helped a little, but not enough. Any ideas/suggestions?

My brain is on vacation.

Possibly low iron? Have you been cold more than is regular lately?

Also, possibly sugar imbalance.

sugar imbalance... too much or too little?

I've been eating much healthier of late that I did for months when I was unemployed, so it is hard to imagine that I am now having iron deficiency, but all things are possible...

Headrush-type headache but no dizziness? I'm not sure. If there's no faintness or dizziness, I think that means it's less likely to be blood pressure entirely. Changed your caffiene levels lately? As for iron, is it that time of the month when your body needs more of it?

Is it standing up specifically, or changing the *angle* of your head, as in lying down to sitting up suddenly? I think it's possible (although pretty unlikely) that a joint problem in the leg could be causing something like that. If it's any change of angle to the head, though, we're back to fluids in the head shifting. Does this happen even if you stand slowly?

Does a standard aspirin/ibuprofen help at all?

It could also be a sinus-type deal. Any other sinus symptoms along with this stuff? A decongestant might relieve it if it's an incipient sinus problem.

Yeah, there's definitely no faintness or dizziness.

Well, I had a can of diet coke two days ago. Maybe I'm just oversensitive to starting and stopping caffeine intake... It's hard to tell.
As for iron... I'm on Depo Provera now so I don't get my period. But I started it about a month ago, so it might be that this is when I WOULD be getting my period if I wasn't on it.

Rapid changes... Like when I shake my head back and forth rapidly, it hurts, but doesn't prompt a long lived headache. Going from lying to sitting or sitting to standing causes a headache. Just leaning it back or forward once, not too sharply, doesn't really bother me.
I think acetaminophen helps a little but not a lot.

Sinus' may be the sum of it. [livejournal.com profile] dragon_spirit is/has been sick so this may be my own manifestation of that sickness.

p.s.

But if I had to guess, I would suggest dehydration, especially if salty chips helped.

The headache you describe sounds like dehydration might be causing it, since when you are dehydrated, you lose some of the fluid that cushions your brain. Changing positions can do that to you. Usually it requires being VERY dehydrated, but if you have recently changed your diet or activity, that can also be a factor. Being on hormones (like the pill) or your period can also effect this (which is how I know)

I would suggest drinking something with potassium and salts and upping your fluid intake. Pedialyte is excellent, though get the flavored stuff if you can, the plain is nasty.

I hope that helps.

Hmm, I tend to be really sensitive to dehydration and imbibe water all day, but it doesn't always help. And this headache doesn't feel like my normal dehydration headaches, but that doesn't mean it isn't caused by dehydration necessarily.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep on drinking fluids and try to get something that will replace the potassium and salt as well.

Ditto. Hit up the water. And gatorade.
Sit in the bath for awhile (this can help dehydration, which I didnt' realize until about 2 years ago).
Take some multi-vitamins.
Sounds like a combo of dehydration, sinuses, and perhaps a odd bit in your neck or shoulders.
