Believe it or not, housing
Mar. 14th, 2006 10:41 amI'm starting to think about housing again. Hard to believe -- I've only been in the new place for 1.5 months.
But, my lease is up September 1, which means if I decide I want to move, I have to give notice July 1. Which means I have 3.5 months to decide what I want.
It's way too early to make decisions. And I'm certainly not about to go into hyper obssessive house searching mode. But here's the thing.
IF I am full time freelance come September 1, I really ought to be living somewhere cheaper.
It's too late at this point to play the switcheroo at Jarvis George with
whitesangria -- she's moving at the end of this month, apparently. Nonetheless, I now know of two nifty queer poly couples living in Jarvis George, and hear rumours of another couple known to a queer poly woman I know. That's pretty appealing. And, their prices are pretty good for a two bedroom. And, if I'm no longer commuting to this godawful location, I could live that far downtown and it would be Good.
So, I'm starting to think about coop housing a little more. Thing is, they have 6 month to 3 year wait periods, depending on where you're applying, and for what kind of apartment. So, if I want to apply, I should do so now, not later. Lots of things I need to find out though. Do I apply for me, or for a specific size apartment, and if the latter, do I have to have my housemate picked out in advance, or can I find the housemate when my application comes up on the wait list? I can't afford a bachelor or one bedroom in most coops, if I'm trying to save money in comparison to the $700 inclusive I'm currently paying.
Anyway, something I'm thinking about in the back of my mind.
