The world is coming to an end!

pyat via email, and then
zunger via LJ:
The polar ice caps are melting at a measurable rate, and models indicate it's accelerating, not decelerating
As I said to
zunger, I really appreciate that these guys are simply providing the data, rather than moralizing about how this happened. How it happened is nearly irrelevant. What matters is what we can do next: can we turn the tides, no pun intended, or do we need to start preparing for massive, semi-permanent flooding in certain coastal areas as well as other climate changes? The former probably brings us back to the whole environmental argument about global warming, but the latter does not.
From my father, 1984:
A single database, cradle-to-grave, citizen tracking system is to be implemented in Holland beginning in September 2007
Scary, yet in my opinion inevitable. IF the governments stay honest and religion-free, it could have enormous implications for efficient government, less bureaucratic angst, and most importantly, health research (as in, studies). I predict that its only a matter of time before other countries follow in the Dutch's steps.
