Someone who is somehow a hurricane victim bitches out those who are still planning on attending DragonCon this weekend. The Dot_Cattiness community responds, mocking their unfortunate attempt at logic.

In a similar catty vein, a discussion of how the hurrican effects me, the hesitation some Canadians feel at helping out with the relief given recent American governmental policy (for the record, those people in the thread who hesitated all decided ultimately to donate). Then a Rand-ist pipes in about profiting off the folks in Louisiana, and the thread degenerates into lots of anger.

Snopes gets going on myths springing up from Katrina! In particular, it has an explanation for the now famous photo captions which described a black gentleman as looting and an apparently white couple as
"finding."

Portions of a transcript in which CNN's Anderson Cooper tears Senator Landrieu a new one. One of the remarkable things about the current crisis is that normally smooth reporters are losing their cool. They're playing hardball with politicians, jumping down their throat, losing it on camera. It's wonderful.

An actual newspaper revisits the topic of why the current Administration messed up Big Time on being prepared for Katrina, complete with fresh new quotes from FEMA coordinators etc.

In the blame Bush category, this article looks at a high school in Ohio where 13 per cent of the girls are pregnant. The school only teaches abstinence education, and this is cited by one parent as the reason her daughter is pregnant. Well, gee, Mom, maybe YOU should have taught your daughter about using condoms! I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Warm Feel-good
I have read reports of at least one hurricane refugee being taken in sight unseen by other LJ-ers. Yay for good people and community!

Today I rose before the sun. *goes thud* Many more hours to go, however, before I'm done! I have that press conference at 4, and then dinner at 6ish. Time for more caffeine, says I.
