danaeris: (Whome?)
My birthday is on October 5th, and I'm hoping to celebrate by attending Intercon Mid-Atlantic, which is October 7-9 (Thanksgiving weekend in Canada!).

(1) Anyone going or thinking of going?
(2) Anyone interested in sharing a hotel room?
(3) I'd be flying into Washington Dulles airport. I theoretically should be able to grab a train to Wilmington, but I'm wondering if anyone knows someone who might be driving from the Washington area.

For the uninitiated, Intercons are a series of cons consisting entirely of one-shot larps. A whole weekend of larping. Unlike other cons, it has been my experience with these cons that people really DO spend the whole time doing Con events. Sure, there's some socializing outside of it, but people really do go to larp.

If you want a crash course in one-shot larps that are at the cutting edge of game mechanics... well, all the Intercons I've been to (which granted were in MA, not Delaware) have fit that bill to a T. :)

Check it out! http://www.larpaweb.org/intercon/xx/

This weekend I:
-began moving all of my boxes from one end of the basement to the other so they aren't blocked by my brother's stuff (hope to finish this one this weekend)
-began cataloguing the stuff in those boxes which aren't already catalogued
-refiled some of my old files from SF, re-integrating them with the files I've been keeping here
-stripped most of the blue paint off of the dresser's body; there's some stubborn stuff I need to turn the dresser over to get at, even with knee pads, and then I'll have to do the drawers. It went well; my father's bottle of paint stripper turned out to be unopened.
-cleaned my bunny with upholstery cleaner. Today I will probably spot clean him and comb out his fur.
-bought No. 1 and No. 2 Bescherelle, and Larousse de Poche 2006, and also a book by Berlitz that teaches you naughty stuff in French. Because I definitely need to know how to say nice breasts in french, or answer internet personal ads!
-visited the Salerno factory outlet store; the light ricotta there is WAY cheaper than elsewhere, and pretty darned healthy.
-dubbed some more stuff from HDD to DVD and labelled my two larger DVD storage cases
-found all of the stuff I need to follow up on the Sal. Bros. financial fiasco and apply for my UK passport (now my parents need to find their marriage certificate...)
-researched my birthday trip
-re-read part of a french story I'd read and wrote down and looked up ALL of the words I didn't know
-read about some faux finishes at http://www.fauxlikeapro.com (worth checking out if you're interested in this sort of thing; click on Learn in the menu bar across the top)
-finished the latest draft of that article I've been working on and sent it to some friends for editing
-cleaned some dirty sex toys while my parents were out shopping (that's right now)

I don't think I'll be getting any more work worth mentioning done on the dresser today, tomorrow is Buffy and Tuesday is French lesson. It's just that my right arm is DEAD dead dead from all the paint scraping I did yesterday. Maybe I'll do the stripper part of the drawers but leave the sanding and hard scraping for Wednesday night. Next weekend, though, I could paint it! Eep! That means I have to decide how to paint it! How exciting!

So, I don't know who Larry Elmore is -- apparently some comic guy. Here's what he's working on:

"Liberality For All - 8 issue mini series - Color

Synopsis:

America’s future has become an Orwellian nightmare of ultra-liberalism. Beginning with the Gore Presidency, the government has become increasingly dominated by liberal extremists."

It appears to be an alternate reality in which Gore won the first election. Except, the conception given here of what would have happened is severely and bizarrely warped.

I think my brain is bleeding, and in true sadomasochist style, I thought I should share the joy with you-all. Link courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] pyat.
