EDIT: I was wrong, folks! What they actually want is a situation where you click on the item you want, and it drops down a menu (so not when you mouseover). When you select an option that opens a different page rather than another level of the menu tree, the above section of the tree should still be visible. You can see some really ugly implementations of this which fail to highlight for the most part here:

Then select iSlide, and look at the same menus linked to in the bottom right hand menu.

The old post:
Basically, I want to know if this is possible. The guy we have who handles this stuff says it can't be done, and I'm skeptical. An example website which does it exactly this way would do the trick too...

It has to do with navigation. The idea is a menu bar down the left side of the page.

As you run your mouse over it, it is highlighted and the subcategories come sliding out from underneath expanding the entire menu downward (so, not sticking out the side).

Then, if you click on one of those options, that information will load in the browsing section of the page, and the menu bar will stay with that drop down menu open, and the category AND subcategory selected highlighted to indicate where you are.

The following links are close but no cigar:

Anyone know if this can be done, and if so, what type of leet coding needs to be done to make it work?

I was surfing around, looking for something — I don't even remember what — and I noticed one of those silly java applet games on the top of the page. The kind that promises a prize if you succeed at winning the game in the applet.

This one had boxing gloves, and you had to punch Bush.

It was stupid. I mean, hitting him was easy, and three punches would knock him out. And then it would open some annoying webpage where they would be sketchy at you about winning something or other.

But I couldn't help myself. I played several times.

I told [livejournal.com profile] pyat I want to kick things. Yup. I'd like to kick things. *kickkick*

In other news, I got annoyed with my journal's style and switched to one of the defaults. It's awfully white, but it will do for now. I don't have the energy to learn their style system, but what I really want is a style that places the entire LJ menu bar across the top of the page at all times. Anyone seen this anywhere?
