All alone!

Plans for the evening spontaneously cancelled. Which I guess is ok. I'm kind of tired. Current plans involve slow progress on a number of projects/work, eBay joy, and movies I've already seen so that they make the apartment seem less empty but don't distract me too much.

I wouldn't object to company if there were an attractive offer, but there IS an awful lot to do. :)

Had an awesome few days. Worked out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and today. Wednesday, met up with Unseelie and went to the Observatory for a quiet evening of hanging out, port, indian food, snuggles with nifty folk, and hot tubbing. Went home, crashed, took FOREVER to get out of bed... Eventually we headed back to his place and finished Escaflowne (except for the movie).

Wednesday when we got home I found my copy of the graduation video from Impact! *bounce* So after watching Escaflowne and getting a few other things done, we headed over to [livejournal.com profile] redhead33's boyfriend's place to watch it with her. We ate XMas leftovers and then got into the hot tub with tasty ice cream and chatted some more. It was great to catch up.

Today we had another lazy morning, but still got a lot done. We decided to go with Verizon, researched the options as far as implementing that, set up two important appointments for [livejournal.com profile] unseelie, and got him his new phone and transferred the service. We were going to get lunch and then he was going to drop me off at the gym and go meet [livejournal.com profile] thornedillusion for their first date (*warm fuzzy compersiony goodness*), but his car started making bad-brakes-noises on the way to food. So we had very tasty foodie goodness and then parted ways so he could drop his car off at a garage for repairs. More about that in a car post.

I made my way to the gym, worked out, and now I'm cozy at home!

Car foo

So the total cost of ownership of [livejournal.com profile] unseelie's car has reached the unacceptable level and its still getting worse:
-we never repaired the bumper from that accident months ago
-the alignment is way out
-the brake pads are being replaced as we speak
-There's something wrong with the starter such that every few days we have to jump start it... since he spent $30 on a portable jumper, this isn't a big nuisance, but still...

In good condition, selling his car privately would be worth $2000. We've already spent $1000 in repairs on it in the last 1.5 years.

If he and I were going to live together, I'd buy a car and we could share it. But he's going to move up to Sonoma State next fall if all goes according to plan. Which means he's going to need a car.

I don't think its right for me to buy him a car... I've already abused my finances enough. But something has to happen. I have no idea how much the above problems will cost to fix, whether we'd come out more ahead fixing it and then selling it, or selling as is and letting them fix it.

As for buying a replacement, we were thinking about frequenting police auctions until something comes along. Once he stops working in Palo Alto, we could even have a gap between the cars, so we could take our time. Anyone know where to find out where police auctions occur and when? Anyone have any advice on going to police auctions? I'm also tempted to look for myself while I'm there...

So we signed [livejournal.com profile] unseelie up for a 2-year plan and got him a free LG phone today. Transition should be complete by tomorrow. We chose to do this because according to the website [livejournal.com profile] joedecker pointed us towards and other noises we've heard, Verizon is the only reliable service in and around Santa Rosa, where Sonoma State is. Since there's high odds that he'll be living there in 8 months, we figured that was essential.

[livejournal.com profile] unseelie wants a Verizon Kyocera 6035, and has a Sprint one, as well as an old Sprint flip phone, an old cingular candybar phone, and the LG phone he got today.
I have a Verizon Kyocera 6035, and am torn about getting a 7135.

As [livejournal.com profile] thirdson pointed out to me in the comments of a deleted post, Sprint 6035s can be converted into Verizons, and he's putting me in touch with someone who can tell me how to do this! But that still leaves me seriously wanting to trade mine in for the 7135, which goes for $500 with a 2-year contract or with my "staying with Verizon discount" on April 5th, or ranging from $200-$450 on eBay.

So what do you think?
