Job interview went well, even though I missed my train because it was Nov 1, and was 20 minutes late (I called ahead to let them know my situation).

Apparently they didn't even know what a science writer or journalist IS. I'm the first person they've run into with a background in both writing and science. That REALLY makes me stand out.

I know for a fact that they only interviewed between 6 and 8 people including me. They are getting back to me by the end of Monday. They had us take proofreading tests and do writing samples for them--all the same. I think that if I did reasonably well on those tests, that I will get the job. We'll see.

Bad things about this job:
It is a family run business, run by two sisters. The secretary may not be in the family; I'm not sure. This will not make it a 'be free to be yourself' work environment, but I'm only there 9-4:30 every day for the next 1-3 years, and I'll be working, mostly.

I got home with very sore feet, relaxed a little, and sent in an application for another job that looks not quite as promising but almost as good. Closer, applied sciences department of a textbook company, but the job description may not include writing/editing--hard to tell.
