Wired just called. I did NOT get the internship. They are really sorry for taking so long to get to me. It was a really strong pool of applicants, and it was REALLY close, and if I keep on racking up good experiences, they'd love for me to apply again in four months time. Oh, and they'd love it if I wanted to freelance for them, so the editor I interviewed with is sending me an email about that, and would be more than willing to give me some pointers on how to pitch things to them, etc.

Which makes me feel like... I don't know. I feel reasonably good about that. It sounds like I was *this* close to getting the internship. Which doesn't help me now. But if I do the PA Weekly internship, I could land a full time job elsewhere or alternatively, one of the Wired internships.

So... something.

I'm still a little worried about the PA Weekly internship... it could end up COSTING me money. I wish now I had applied for an internship at Mother Jones; it is in the city and has a much larger travel stipend which I wouldn't even need. Then again, it is full time and doesn't pay unless you get a fellowship, which you only get if you are extended to 8 months after the first four. And applications are due 2 months in advance of the start date. So I guess that's that.

I'll do something now. I'm just not sure what. Probably call up PA Weekly and say yes.

I'm sorry to hear that. At least they seem to have convinced you that they do like your writing, and that they'd look favorably on submissions. In some ways, I think a freelance publishing credit in Wired might be even better on a resume than an internship. Definitely chase that opportunity...

...as for job choices, well, I hope something works out.
