Darkness Falls and update
Feb. 20th, 2003 03:05 pmSo to those who have responded to my bitch about the Darkness Falls party...
I have no problem with sex parties and orgies. However.
If you read the description of the party properly, you will discover the following problems with it:
(1) NO TALKING in the sex room policy. So you CAN'T ask someone, "are you std free? have you been tested recently?"
(2) The whole point is that you don't know who you are fucking. So it isn't that you're supposed to negotiate in the chill room and then fuck in the dark fucking room. There's no talking with the person you fuck. No negotiating. No CONSENT.
(3) HERPES. The only way to avoid Herpes is to inspect VISUALLY for sores. Even then sex with someone who has herpes but no sores can infect you. Latex condoms will not protect you from contracting herpes. Dental dams might, I'm not sure.
So, um, there. Yeah.

No word back from Wired yet, and there is 2.5 hours left in their business day.
*twitch*
Meanwhile, a secretarial job for the Math department at Stanford scheduled an interview with me for next Friday. I could be happy there for a while... among intelligent youngsters. Maybe I could even attend classes or something depending on schedule. Dunno.

Date: 2003-02-20 03:32 pm (UTC)And preventing someone from saying "ouch stop that" and "no I don't like that" etc is...well...STUPID at the very minimal. Lack of consent bad, as is lack of communication.
Just my poor, overtired, vanilla by other's standards take. And now we shut the brain off again.
But I hope the interviews come out well :) Fingers are crossed, and wood has been knocked on.

Date: 2003-02-20 05:32 pm (UTC)As I said before, if you go to the party, you're taking the risk. You have already consented. If it doesn't suit you and you're worried, don't go. If I was with someone and something untoward happened that upset me, I WOULD speak and say "Ow" Or "stop" or "safeword". I don't think they're putting duct tape on your mouth. And who says you couldn't go into the chill room, chat and take the person's hand to enter the other room and play?
I personally like to talk and negotiate first and during be able to say "harder, faster, slower, higher, lower... " etc.. and make lots of noise. I also like to see eyes. Now you know there has to be SOME light in order to open and put on a condom anyhow. ::shrug:: it's an interesting concept and YES, it's risky.
Herpes is not the only STD that can still be transferred through a condom.
Human Papilloma Virus - HPV aka Genital warts, can also be transferred through other exposed genital skin. Often there is nothing you can see that would identify that. It's far more common than most people realize. There may be other STDS that can be transferred even with condoms that I am not aware of.
