If you were planning on getting me a present this year, realize that I have no money and will not be returning the favour. There may be a few people for whom I do small arts and craft things, but I'm not counting on it, and neither should you.
I will willingly accept offers of presents, but cannot return the favour.

A gift given with the expectation of something in return is a gift given for the wrong reasons. But when I'm in your shoes, I always apologize the same way.
