Volunteer Writers Wanted!
Jun. 22nd, 2006 01:25 pmOK.
I've got three, maybe more editors on board for torontopoly.ca, but now it's time to get some writers lined up.
This is all volunteer work. However, you'll be getting edited by professional writers, editors, and journalists, and contributing to the poly community.
Become a regular contributor
Sometimes, our editors get story ideas but don't have time to write them. If you're interested in being in our stable of writers and being assigned stories (well, asked to write stories, if you have the time), email me at this username, at this site's domain, with a writing sample or three (could be a well-written blog post, an essay, poetry... whatever you've got) and a little bit about yourself. Currently, I have one story idea that needs to be written by next Thursday, which I may not be able to write myself.
Pitch a specific story idea
Maybe you have a specific story that you think would be relevant and appropriate for the site. It's not up and running yet, but soon there will be an email address to send submissions, "editors" at the website's domain. If you want to pitch a story idea, send us a brief description of what the story is about, if it isn't obvious, why this should go on the TO Poly site, and a little about yourself. Also please attach 1-3 writing samples of any kind. Note that all content will be edited before being published -- just like in a real publication.

Date: 2006-06-22 06:06 pm (UTC)I co-founded the weekly social, but it has no facilitator or host at this point. It is self-running, as originally intended!
Similarly, I coordinated the launch of the website, and am effectively the Managing Editor. That is, I came up with the idea, found a talented web designer, discussed the design, and nagged her to death about getting the site up and running; now I promote the website, and am trying to get the editors organized and content coming in so that people don't get to the site and find no content!
But
I'm trying to make this as grass-roots, distributed workload as possible. By the polynation, for the polynation, or somesuch. ;)

I'm okay with committing to producing 1000 words/month.
I'm okay with ATTEMPTING considerably more than that, but until we're all used to each other and my schedule settles that's what I'm willing to swear I WILL produce on time, on topic and to spec, over a 30 day period.
Can you work with that?

Date: 2006-06-27 05:56 pm (UTC)Such that, if I have a story idea, I can email them all and say, "Anyone want to take this?" And if someone does, it gets written, and if no one does, it doesn't; no harm, no foul.
So, this isn't a commitment. :)
